Raiding Tips

WoW is not an easy game by any means since the release of Cataclysm, their newest expansion. Even the hardcore, full time raiders of Paragon and other top guilds agree that this content is not easy by any means. Now if your like me, you might be a casual raider, raiding whenever you can bu not every day. You probably, like me, want to get to some of the end game content, but your in no rush to do so. Well in order to raid, certain things need to be in order, and some steps need to be taken so that you are always aware and at your best. So here are a few simple things you can do.

1.    Either don’t play music while raiding, or keep it very low. A good rule of thumb is, “if you can hum to it, it’s to loud.” The reason for this is pretty simple. When raiding, you need to keep your full mental capacity on what is going on: don’t stand in this, adds are out so kill them, or don’t kill them, stand in this thing it gives a buff, stop attacking at this point, switching targets, just to name a few. When you are humming, you are using some of your brain to memorize and process the music, as well as telling you vocals to hum. Music alone has usually been one of my number one reasons for missing something when tanking.

2.    Get add-ons that will help YOU. This is a big thing despite what some may think. Add-ons can sometimes make or break an encounter. But when you go looking for add-ons, think of things that you may need help on such as when a boss is going to spew lava all over the place, when adds are coming out, switching targets, etc.. I personally also use add-ons that help me know what to gear to look for when we are going to do a boss kill. This helps so that loot can get out faster and more time can be done downing bosses than waiting to see if that piece of gear is going to be beneficial or not. Some common ones that most raiders use, myself included, are Deadly Boss Mods, Grid, Recount, Atlas Loot, Omen Threat Meter, and X-perl.

3.    Keep things in the center of the screen. When you think about it, 99.9999% of things that happen during a raid happen in the middle, or what is supposed to be the middle, of our screen. Try to situate things so that they are where you will notice them, usually the middle of the screen. But make sure to keep things that are not important or not relevant to you off to the side. If you are a DPS, you don’t really need to have taunts on your bars, or need to know when the tanks are switching, you just keep killing what you need to kill and pay attention to fires on the ground, etc..
Those are some of the basics to successful raiding. If you have more tips or tricks, go ahead and comment, as I’m sure everyone wants to know just what can make them better raiders. If you want to find more add-ons, or get the ones in this post, go to curse.com.
