It is hard to choose which is better, the well known Quest Helper, or the great Cartographer? I used to only use Quest Helper, yet ever since I found out about Cartographer; I have found a very well made questing mod! But since some people are still choosing which questing mod to choose, I’ll just lay down the pros and cons of both of them.

You might be one of those people that that is saying to them self, “what on God’s green earth is a mod, and are they even that needed? What exactly do mods add to the game that I may be missing?” Well the first question is probably the easiest to answer. A mod is a program that is used to help enhance your interface and get information that is otherwise not provided, just to name a few. Now the last question is probably the hardest to answer because it all depends on how much you know about the game and what you want out of the game. I was never able to quest effectively and it would take forever to level because I didn’t know where to go or what to do. I would spend hours on a quest because I wouldn’t know what to do.

Quest Helper (QH) is a very well known mod that has helped many people get through the tedious process of leveling a lot faster. QH looks at the quest you just got and shows you on the map where you might be able to find the thing you are looking for. It also has different icons depending on just exactly what kind of quest it is whether it’s killing a named mob or looking for the entrance to a dungeon. QH also tells you what level the quest is. Now personally I had been using this mod for about a year before I found out about an alternative.

Some of the issues that are with QH though are:

  • Quest helper is not exact, as are many mods. Yet with QH, it gives you an area where is should be, but sometimes, you may sit there for 20-30 minutes and it never shows. That is because QH doesn’t give you the whole area of where the thing might be.
  • QH is probably the only mod you will ever see pull over 40mb of memory. That is a lot of memory. Thus it creates a lot of lag in the game not allowing you to enjoy the game to its full potential.

Now Cartographer has many of the same features as QH such as saying what the level of the quest is and having a coding for that kind of quest it is. Except that is goes by color and not by what the icon looks like

· This mod takes up maybe 2-3mb of memory. That’s 90% less memory than QH which allows you to help enjoy the game to its fullest and fastest possible potential.

· This mod also shows you virtually every possible spot there is on where to find what you are looking for.

· This mod also gives you a bigger and easier to use quest log allowing for easy reading choosing of quest.

Yet Cartographer also has some cons. The major one is that the quest has to be active in order for it to be active.

These mods can be found HERE, along with a list of others
